about

Sunset Attic is a compilation of four different recording periods throughout 2009. I've grouped them off into different EPs.

The Michigan Summer EP is a collections of songs written during a summer break spent in Ann Arbor. I stayed with some players on the UM lady's rugby team and wrote these songs in the basement of the house. When I came back to Athens, I found a cheap sublet for a month and wrote Summer Feeling there while drinking lots of coffee and reading Aristotle's Ethics. This was also when I met some people displaced by Huricane Katrina and broke my foot playing basketball with them. I smoked them out a bunch and they ended up helping me move.

After that month, I moved into a house on Sunset. I opted for the duck-your-head attic room that was really small and only suitable for a young man who doesn't care or doesn't know better. This would be where the Xearbooks' Sweaty Summer Skeeter Eater was recorded. During that period, I recorded The Girl EP. All of the songs were improvised, but I believe What Part Of Me was improvised and then revised to include "T-Rex Teflon Tapeballing".

Downstairs, however, I was able to set up a drum set and a PA. With this live feel, I recorded the Diningroom Drumset EP. These were started by recording a drum track and then layering. I remember being really happy with this sound, mainly because I wasn't confined to the attic -- I could really let loose.

Finally, some more improvisations came out and should be considered B-Sides. On the Attic Improvs EP, some interesting song structures and lyrics came out. There is one bonus track that is a C-side. It starts out really bad, but then picks up.

I hope you enjoy these songs,

Peace and Thanks
